“Biến tượng” của Vũ Hiệp
Vũ Hiệp lựa chọn con đường dài và khó khi nghiên cứu mỹ thuật, kiến trúc gắn liền với thực hành nghệ thuật. Không có gì lạ khi hình hài nghệ thuật của anh khác biệt. Đó là sự nhào nặn của những giá trị tinh thần truyền thống Việt Nam, nghệ thuật kiến trúc, điêu khắc cổ và một trí tưởng tượng dị biệt mang hơi hướng siêu thực trên chất liệu hội họa truyền thống: Lụa.
Không nhiều họa sĩ đương đại theo đuổi một câu chuyện hội họa với tư duy đặc thù và mạch lạc như thế. Đặc trưng trong tranh Vũ Hiệp có lẽ là tính dân gian phồn thực, vừa nôm na vừa khôn ngoan hài hước, đôi khi là cường điệu (hay chính anh gọi là “ngoa” khi nói về cá tính nghệ thuật Việt Nam).

Những công trình nghiên cứu của anh thường đi theo lối quy nạp. Anh truy vấn để gọi ra những cá tính nghệ thuật của người Việt Nam. Tính duy lý, rốt ráo trong nghiên cứu và sáng tác là cần thiết để một cá tính vượt khỏi lối mòn, mới hy vọng đi đến cuối con đường. Trong thực hành nghệ thuật này, chắc chắn những hình hài sẽ dẫn lối. Hội họa có thể là một hướng đi ngược lại để mở rộng ý nghĩa cho ngôn từ và suy tư.
Trên hết, điều đặc sắc mà người xem thấy được trong hội họa của Vũ Hiệp có lẽ là một vẻ mộng mị khó diễn tả từ những thứ tưởng chừng như mạch lạc ấy. Trong đó cái thân quen và lạ lẫm nhào nặn để tạo nên sự lôi cuốn. Người xem có thể cảm thấy rõ niềm yêu mến nơi chốn, văn hóa Việt Nam, có suy tư cá nhân, giấc mơ, huyền thoại, đức tin và cả những biểu tượng, hình tượng được biến tạo.

"Transfiguration" by Vu Hiep
Vu Hiep undertook a long and strenuous path when concurrently researching fine art and the artistic application of architecture, resulting in his eccentric art form. One that was molded from Vietnamese spiritual values, architecture, ancient sculpture, and peculiar artistry with a surreal touch from the traditional painting material, silk.
Only a few contemporary painters pursue a path with such a distinct and coherent mindset. A prominent attribute in Vu Hiep's paintings is the integration of traditional folklore, with its vague yet witty humor, and sometimes exaggeration (or “sass” - stated by the artist when talking about Vietnamese artistic identity).

The artist’s works often ensue the inductional fashion and inquiry to culminate the artistic quirkiness of the Vietnamese people. Evident by the allure that exudes from the amalgamation between intimacy and oddity. Viewers can sense the love for the region, Vietnamese culture, inner thoughts, dreams, myths, beliefs, and the transfigured symbols and visuals.
