During his days living in the city, Van Tich had been yearning to move, to be close to nature. He later conveyed this desire through the painting Red Day. The flower bush is viewed from above and placed in a deep red background. The artist applied the "cross-layer" techniques to combine three shades of red extracted from Cinabrio minerals: Son Nhi, Cadmium (deep red), and Vermillion (reddish orange)
