In the painting Purple Cactus, Van Tich places orange-red flowers on a dark purple setting. When light shines on all the gold lining, the flower bush will arise, blazing on the backdrop. Tich shared: “The purple cactus to me is like the spirit of a man, hard on the outside but soft on the inside, and can survive under any circumstances. They are persistently resilient.”
