Van Tich lives in Dong Chu village, Ninh Binh province. It is a custom there to plant cacti at the entrance or in front of the house in the hopes that the god, represented by the cacti, will protect the land from all evil. Tich said: "When I reminisce about the garden, I always see the crown of thorns at the gate."
